UK Declines to Retaliate Against U.S. Steel and Aluminum Tariffs

The British government recently said it would not take retaliatory trade measures against US steel and aluminum import tariffs. British government officials revealed that they will continue to engage with the United States to seek exemptions. British Business and Trade Secretary Reynolds maintains regular communication with US Commerce Secretary Lutnick and made the case that the UK should be exempted from tariffs in a call last weekend.

British Prime Minister Starmer also urged Trump not to target British manufacturers in a call with him. Despite this, the British government said that if the United States moves forward with tariffs, they will remain calm but are ready to defend national interests.
