Japan-U.S. steel and aluminum tariff negotiations have reached a deadlock, and there has been no progress on the exemption issue
Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Yoshiharu Muto held emergency talks with U.S. officials in an attempt to exempt Japan from U.S. tariffs on steel and aluminum products. However, the talks failed to make substantial progress. Yoshiharu Muto said the U.S. side has not promised to exempt Japan from steel and aluminum tariffs, and the two countries will continue to have close discussions on tariffs.
In addition, Japan also hopes to be excluded from the “reciprocal tariffs” scheduled to be implemented on April 2, and discussed with the U.S. a plan to impose a 25% tariff on imported foreign cars, but the U.S. side did not respond positively.
