Announcement of the ruling on the anti-discrimination investigation into Canada’s restrictive measures against China

On March 8, 2025, China’s Ministry of Commerce announced the ruling on the anti-discrimination investigation of Canada’s relevant restrictive measures. According to the results of the investigation, Canada’s measures to impose tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles, steel and aluminum products constitute discriminatory restrictions, affect the normal trade order, and damage the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies.

The Ministry of Commerce decided to impose a 100% tariff on rapeseed oil, oil cakes, and peas originating from Canada, and a 25% tariff on aquatic products and pork from March 20, 2025. Many business associations such as the China Iron and Steel Association and the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers have expressed their firm support for the Ministry of Commerce’s ruling.

The spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce urged Canada to immediately correct its wrong practices, cancel the restrictive measures, and eliminate the adverse effects
